Making Memories

Remember when you used to blog?"

This from the very prolific Grapefruit. Whatever. The truth is, no, I don't remember. I guess I'm busy just like you.

And somehow, months have elapsed. And like a winter storm, life is just passing through!

Since I've last blogged, Halloween came and went. We went from spooky decor and trunk or treats to the smell of pumpkin pie and Autumn gratitude splashed throughout the house. Hayden was a pilgrim in a school play and sang louder than any other pilgrim up there. Melted this mother's heart. Lindsay turned 13. I've now entered the realm of, gulp, two teenage girls in the house. As Grapefruit would say: Two. Teenage. Girls. !!! I've survived the 48 hour birthday party, soccer games in the pouring rain. Trips to the doctor. Worked in classrooms. Joined a gym. Even went back a few times. And went on vacation. For 5 whole days. As a family. For the first time -- all together -- not the divide and conquer routine we normally pull off. To Disneyland. Happiest...and most crowded...place on Earth. But I'm not complaining! I did not cook or do laundry for five whole days. And that made me oh so happy. And I did sit in a hot and relaxing jacuzzi every day. And I watched my 7 year old fight Darth Vader (and later to move on and fight Darth Mal) with a light saber and achieve his new Padewan (spelling Star Wars fans?) status. It was like watching a college graduation. Well. Alright. That's a stretch. (But you should be used to that by now). And on our last night, he lost a tooth. It's the 3rd tooth in my years of visiting Disneyland and raising children that we've lost there. It's almost tradition. And we ate LOTS of food. And dessert. Because, c'mon. You can't be on a diet in Disneyland. It makes people unhappy and that just isn't allowed there. And tonight, my Lindsay scored another goal at her game. And that made her happy. Which made me happy. And then she finished writing her English paper on our laptop in the car on the way home. Which is why she gets better grades than I did. (Ummm, well, again, that might be a stretch).

And now. Now it's Christmas time. Which is perfect. Because there isn't much I don't LOVE about the holidays. The feeling. The smells. Traditions. Candles. The spirt. And more vacation with long mornings in pj's sitting by the fire. I even read The Christmas Sweater by Glenn Beck which is just a heartwarming story about the real meaning of Christmas and life and love. At least that is what I walked away with.

So that's where we've been. Living life. Not always interesting...but it's snippets. Which for now will have to do.

Wishing all a VERY Happy December.

A day at the park with my wonderful kids.

Lindsay is the die hard at DL. She wears the hats, the pins, hugs the characters and wants to go on that ride "just one more time". And never loses her sense of humor doing it. She is living up to the name on her headgear...DOPEY!

My Jedi Master

Dining at Goofy's Kitchen. This is always a highlight as well as a stomachache!

This sums it up. Exhausted. We need a vacation from our vacation! It was a lot of work, but it was worth it!

Hayden -- the cute short pilgrim looking right at Mom for his moment in the spotlight. Turkeys on Strike -- a November highlight for sure!

"The smell of pumpkin pie..." Um. What? YOU baked a pumpkin pie?

I thoroughly enjoyed this post. Mostly because I know it's the only one I'll get for the next nine months!

Such cute pics of the kids. I told Mitchell about Hayden and Darth and he looked like he might cry with pride.

Sometime we should do Disneyland together. I mean, you'll be at the Grand and we'll be at some bed-bug infested cheapy neighbor hotel, but still, it would be fun!

I knew you were going to blog. I mean, you can't go to DL and NOT blog right?

Great post. Keeping it real with sentiment and humor. Your daughters are just beautiful, and Hayden is a little heart breaker in the making.

Sorry we never got a chance to meet up at the Grand. Nice hotel huh? When we were leaving I opened up our bill and read the bottom and was like "Wow, Bri! That wasn't bad at all!" He then proceeded to tell me that I was only looking at the first page of the bill. Yyyeeeaaa, we should have this trip paid off at this time next year. Oh well, it was worth it. But man was it cold down there or what?!

P.S.- I saw Dave and Mallory walking in the hotel. By the time it registered, it was too late for me to turn back and yell. But I did look out for you : )

So good to have you back! I LOVED the pictures. Totally captured the good times you were having, plus it is just fun looking at those beautiful smiles. (Pricey, I know.) Brought back memories of the times we all spent together there at our last reunion. (We still haven't recovered from that one!) Totally worth it.
Reading your post is like having a great visit with you. Hope you can add another one before the year finishes!~ Maybe I'll even get around to mine! (--if I can ever finish up all those extra music rehearsals. Only five this week. Doesn't anyone else do music?
(Who's kidding. You know I love it.)

Man, your children all look so grown up, H. in particular. Love those children. Even the summary post was great. Every time you talk about the Disneyland trip I can hear how much you enjoyed it. You sound so content and relaxed when you describe it. Thanks for sharing! Love you!
