I am not my sister Liz. She's up and at 'em first thing in the morning with her agenda already in play. I wake up, most days, via a very annoying roadrunner alarm clock honking "BEEP BEEP" at 7 am as the 30 minute countdown begins: The race is on to pack lunches, make breakfast, and hug my kids good-bye. That barely screams routine, but it seems to work for me.
This morning was different. I fell asleep (and STAYED asleep) at 10 pm (til my bladder awoke me 2 different times during the night). I woke up in the almost dark at 6:20 am breathing in the cool, autumn air. I felt rested enough so I decided to start my day. Grabbed the dog and threw her on the grass outside. (She is a football, right?) It felt brisk and fall-like and I inhaled deeply. I can hear leaves rustling in the soft breeze. I lu-huvvvvvvv mornings like this. They smell like Halloween and the quiet is so peaceful. It gets me excited about my day...even if it's me playing maid for the next 3 hours. I just don't mind folding laundry quite so much when the windows are open, my house smells like the 14 Spiced Pumpkin candles I have burning, and being home is right where I want to be.
Having all this extra time, I decided to make french toast and hot chocolate with whipped cream for the girls. (All this effort is not appreciated by Hayden so we don't even go there). The kids come down and see whipped cream and suddenly they are more awake than 20 seconds before. Having definitely scored some points, I feel all warm and happy inside. (Tip: For all you moms who do this daily, you're playing your cards wrong. If you do it monthly...they appreciate it more.)
The day is off to a good start. A change of season is exactly what this mom needed to shake up her Indian summer blues. Hello, Fall. I'm glad you're back.

Don't you just love fall! Those nice cool, 101 days, palm trees, blue skies, cacti...the list goes on and on. Your house always feels so Mary Englebright this time of year. I wish I could be there. (Not to help you with laundry, but to smell your candles and watch you fold the laundry.)
Did you take that picture, too? Oh my word, you are good! (If not, you are still good :)...) Blogging is making this season even more fun. I can't wait to hear more about costumes and prep. My girls want to make poodle skirts!
